Qualitative Research Methodology

Examine the methodology of the research study and submit a critique of it. In writing the critique, you should demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of quantitative research methodology. Write your critique based on the following FIVE aspects and use the questions under each aspect as a guide.

Research Design

-Was the research design chosen clearly described and explained?

-Did the researcher provide any justification for the choice of the research design?

-Was the research design appropriate to address the research objectives?

Population and Sample

-Was the population from which the sample is chosen clearly described?

-Was the sample properly defined, described and delimited?

-Was the sample size adequate for the study?

-Was the sampling technique appropriate and properly explained?

Instrumentation

-Were the instruments appropriate for the study?

-Were the validity and reliability of the instruments discussed?

-Was there any theoretical and/or past research support for the instruments used?

Research Procedures

-Was there a clear discussion of research procedures?

-Were the data collection procedures appropriate for the research design used?

-Were the data collection techniques supported by theory and/or past research?

Framework for Data Analysis

-Were the data analysis techniques appropriate for the study?

-Did the researcher provide justification for the use of specific analysis techniques?

-Could the data analysis techniques provide answers to the research questions?

-Were the interpretations of the statistical results accurate and appropriate?

The above lists of questions are merely a guide that helps to focus your thinking on analyzing each aspect of the research methodology of the research article when you write the critique. You may omit some questions and/or frame additional questions of your own to guide your writing. In your critique, you should, wherever relevant, include your own suggestions on how the methodology of the research can be improved.
