OBJECTIVE: This assignment is to evaluate learners’ analytical skills in exploring issues related to the prevalence of mental illnesses, and highlighting the roles of the Assistant Medical Officer in promoting and upholding mental health among the population. SYNOPSIS: Mental disorders are emerging as serious health threats, globally. The Malaysian Psychiatric Association (2019) has reported that socio-demographic factors and experience of certain life events, particularly divorce, problems with neighbours and friends and severe financial problems were found to be significantly associated with the prevalence of common mental disorders in the Malaysian population.
