ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CHANGE
In a large business, the most important determinant of success is the effectiveness of millions of day-to-day interactions between human beings. If those contacts are contentious, turf-oriented, and parochial, the company will flounder, bureaucracies will grow, and internal competition will be rampant. But when employees behave in accountable, team-oriented and collegial ways, it dramatically improves group effectiveness. (Raymond Smith, CEO, Bell Atlantic, Kanter, 1991)
The purpose of this assignment (Assignment 1) is to develop learners’ ability to:
1. critically discuss the impact of other employees in an organisation on an employee’s behaviour at work.
2. identify the teamwork and how it helps an organisation to achieve its goals.
3. critically analyse the factors affecting team performance.
You have to critically review at least ten (10) references either from journal articles or books to answer the assignment questions.
The discussion should be clear and of graduate standard. Use appropriate references to support your views and discussion.
i. Based on the literature that you have read, critically discuss the concepts of team and its key characteristics
ii. Identify and discuss the factors that influence team effective performance.
iii. Explain why communication plays an vital role in an effective team. How may an organisation achieve this?
