ENGLISH FOR ORAL COMMUNICATION
The task set for this assignment are designed to help you meet the following course learning outcomes (CLOs):
1) Describe effective verbal and non-verbal language in expressing formal and informal communication
2) Demonstrate the ability and confidence in preparing and practising effective communication skills in any settings.
* CLO 2 will be tested in the MCQ items.
TASK
IMPORTANT: This task is an extension of your recorded speech presentation: Informative or Persuasive Speech on the topic SELF MANAGEMENT DURING COVID 19
Write a 4-5 pages critical reflection on the process of preparing the recorded speech presentation (Task1). The structure of this report follows the basic essay structure of introduction, body and concluding paragraphs. Refer to the sample outline as a guide.
Your Reflective Report MUST include the following FOUR criteria:
i) Reflection on the video production process; the planning stage of the video, during the recording of the video and after the video has been recorded. Reflect on the challenges and how did you overcome these challenges. Share your thoughts on the writing process of your speech. You can also reflect on the vocabulary, language and grammar in the process of writing and recording your speech.
ii) Reflect on the following questions to write your reflective essay:
a. How did you plan to video record the speech?
b. Where and how long did you plan to record etc.?
c. How important was creativity and technology for you?
d. What are the challenges you faced in the process of recording the video?
e. How did you overcome the above challenges?
f. What kind of feedback did you receive on your first or second recording?
g. What are the changes you made in the subsequent recordings and Why?
h. What are the things you think you can improve in the future recordings?
i. How was your total experience from writing the speech and getting it recorded?
j. What are the lessons learnt from such an experience?
iii) You should show the recording to a friend to find out if the speech is informative OR persuasive on self-management during COVID -19. If he/she believes the recording is neither, ask for other suggestions that might help improve the speech or the speaker. Share these feedbacks in your reflective essay too.
iv) Your personal thoughts of completing this task (the recording presentation) is highly encouraged. How did you feel about it? If you feel that the recording is not advisable, what would be a better alternative? Justify with your suggestions.
